Fred Perry
In the 1940’s Fred Perry was the Roger Federer of his day with three Wimbledon titles under his belt and, like the stars of today, was soon approached to put his name to all manner of sports products, such as the Fred Perry polo shirt.
At one point, Fred Perry was keen to use a pipe as the logo for the Fred Perry brand. Luckily his more fashion minded business partner suggested it might be a turn off for female fans and so eventually the laurel wreath, inspired by the original Wimbledon symbol, was chosen and has stayed with the brand to this day
Fred Perry gear really took off as fashion wear in the 1960s when the informal but slightly dressed up look suited Mod culture aficionados. To this day the brand is an icon of british subcultures.
